This came up last year, but I am reposting it because other league managers may wish to consider their options.

If you have a league with "Last Game of Week" set as the tiebreaker, be advised that depending on when picks were submitted (or last updated) participants may have different tiebreaker games selected. Some may have the original Vikings-Bears Monday night game, while others may have the TeamWithoutAName-Eagles game selected. My preference is for all participants to use the same tiebreaker, so this is how I'm addressing the tiebreaker in my pick-em pool.

  • I've notified my pool participants that the original tiebreaker game (typically the Monday night game) will not change.
  • If any games are rescheduled for late Monday or Tuesday, participants are to ignore the displayed tiebreaker game selection on the pick entry page and choose based on the original tiebreaker game.
  • Once the picks are locked in (1pm ET for my pool), I will use manager functions to temporarily set the tiebreaker setting to "any game", edit any picks that show a different tiebreaker game, and then restore the "last game of week" setting.

This way, all participants will have the same tiebreaker game.

Hi Tom,

That is a good way to deal with this issue, thanks for sharing this again.

For those managers who also use 'Last Game' as the tie-breaker and don't want to hassle with this, in the grand scheme of things no one really gains an advantage by having a different game to put a tie-breaker on. When making picks, the tie-breaker game is explicity shown on the picks sheet, and their pick is always tied to the game shown. I do understand that some players may complain that they ignore the listed game and enter in points assuming the Monday night game is the tie-breaker game. But one could argue, maybe coldly, that that's on them. :)
