Hello,

I have got 3 total people in my pool that have got different picks for the Panthers vs Saints game. The spread to open the week was Panthers -3, and then later in the week was changed to -9. However, before the change in the spread these 3 players selected the Panthers -3 and then later in the week changing OTHER picks, never touching the Panthers game, automattically switching it to the Panthers -9. Can you please confirm that I, Jacob Burant, Aley Luedtke, and Sam Bello had the Panthers -3 before the switch took place sometime after Friday afternoon and please advise how i can make these changes to update and reflect properly?

Thanks,

Hi Jacob,

You are correct that this will happen.  I've submitted a ticket so that future edits will preserve the line. Amazingly, since 1992 only TWICE has such a drastic change in the line forced me to update the line, the example this week (late-breaking Brees injury affected Car/NO game), and last year's Buffalo/Jets game that was moved to Detroit. So it's VERY rare that I have to update the line, I never bother with line moves less than 2. But hey, its two years in a row now after a very long hiatus (22 years) where there was minimal line movement after Tuesday.

In order to 'fix' the problem for your league, the easiest thing to do is edit the picks for the three players in question and select the "winning" team, in this case NO covering the -9. They should be able to confirm the early line they received via the email they would have been sent of their picks.

Alright Cool,

Thanks Fred! One other thing, is there any way you can confirm for me on here incase people in my pool question me? Since i am the manager of the Pool.. I dont want people thinking i am cheating by changing my pick, but i really did have the Panthers -3 on friday for me (Jacob Burant) and also Aley Luedtke. I do see the players logs that we can view, but it doesnt specifically say which picks i made or anything and im just assuming you can probably see? I do not have my email anymore as i must have deleted it. Any help would be appreicated!

Thanks again!

If push came to shove I could prove it because I have daily copies of the database that is saved every night.

Hello,

Just curious if there is any update on the fix on the lines being preserved with later edits? There was some movement in the lines this week, and without changing the pick still ended up getting the new line. It would be very helpful if we had to option to keep the line we already selected prior, or if we wanted the new updated line. For example, SD vs BAL, line was 3.0, had BAL -3.0, but later was changed to BAL -3.5, and never updated this game.. Just updated the TEN vs HOU game and still ended up getting the BAL -3.5 line instead. And unforturnatley, BAL won by 3, so got a loss instead of a tie. It would just be nice if we got to pick to keep the line if wanted.

Thanks,

The problem is as you mentioned above, how to allow a person to 'select' the line they want - but I really don't want to confuse/complicate things by offering another option on the pick sheet.  I think what makes the most sense is to preserve the first line when a person made the pick, but allow them to change the team which would then use the new line (this is the currently planned fix, which could be ready soon). A clever person could then change the team back. This also brings in the purpose of the 'grace period' for changing picks. If a manager doesn't want a player to have the ability to do this, they could set the grace period to 0. This would be similar to how a Vegas book works, once you make your pick its locked and you're stuck with what you get.

Hi Jacob,

A fix is now in place, so going forward the line will not change for edited picks. As mentioned earlier, a way a player can get around this is to pick the opposing team, which would then get them the current line, then switch it back to the team they want. If managers do not want to allow this, they could use the grace period setting to control how long after their initial picks they can go back and edit them.

Example 1: On Tuesday, Bob picks Carolina with a line of -3 over Dallas.  On Thursday, the line goes to -9. If Bob edits his picks but doesn't change the Carolina pick, he still gets Carolina -3.

Example 2: On Tuesday, Bob picks Carolina with a line of -9 over Dallas.  On Thursday, the line goes to -3. If Bob edits his picks but doesn't change the Carolina pick, he still gets Carolina -9.  But Bob now wants -3. In order to get that line, he needs to select Dallas, then switch back to Carolina. If the manager had set the grace period to 12 hours, Bob would not have been able to make the change, unless his initial picks occured within 12 hours of the move in the line.
