The introduction to Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho is known as somewhat of a cult hero in soccer and once he’d reached being a manager in the game, the ‘Special One’ didn’t wait long before making massive strides. Mourinho did not waste time in giving the feeling of immense confidence and announced himself as the ‘Special One’ in his first press confidence as manager of the blues. He ensured that Roman Abramovic was backing him as manager as he requested various players to be purchased to ensure he hit the ground running. A mix of players he’d grew fond of, such as Didier Drogba and some players he knew well at Porto, such as Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira and many more joined the club and having not won a title in 50 years, the thought of winning the Premier League was quickly laughed at.
The laughter was quickly transformed into awe as the side went on to break a handful of records deemed unbreakable. The side ended with only 15 goals conceded which is a record that remains today. Throughout the record-breaking season, Mourinho became incredibly popular as he continued with a somewhat arrogant aura about him. It’s rumoured that when Jose arrived at Stamford bridge, he informed the players at the club to listen and trust him and he’d get them the title. The team were of course sceptical, but as some described, he just gave that feeling you had to believe him, the rest is history.
