It’s not long since Manchester City lifted the Premier League trophy for a record fourth successive season. But already excitement is building for the big kick off of the 2024/25 season. The fixtures have been announced and the teams are working through their summer transfer business. And the sports betting sites have already made odds available for the new season for those punters wanting to jump on the early odds which are often more favourable than the prices available as the season embarks.
2023/24 season
The season just ended threw up few surprises when it came to the crunch. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City continued the team’s modern-day dominance of the Premier League by securing their fourth consecutive Premier League crown, finishing only two points ahead of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who enjoyed a superb yet ultimately unsuccessful campaign. At the bottom of the table we said goodbye to the three clubs that had only just come up from the Championship. Burnley and Sheffield United went down with a whimper, while Luton Town’s gallant efforts were not enough. In terms of the Premier League top scorer, City’s Erling Haaland again secured the Golden Boot award, notching 27 goals in 31 matches to win the prize for a second season in a row in only two campaigns in the division for the Norwegian. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer finished second with 22 goals in what was a stunning debut campaign for the player at the club. That was also enough to secure the Premier League Young Player of the Year award, while Manchester City’s Phil Foden won the Player of the Year award for the first time after scoring 19 goals and inspiring his side to the title. Almost a City clean sweep, then.
2024/25 season
Most of the biggest and best online sports betting sites already have their odds available for the new season, and the prices available offer up plenty of opportunities to secure favourable odds on the outcome you wish to predict.
To win
There is little surprise to see which team tops the sports betting sites’ lists in terms of who they think will win the Premier League title in 2024/25. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have dominated the competition in recent years and became the first ever side to win the top flight in four consecutive seasons when they ended the 2023/24 campaign two points ahead of nearest rivals Arsenal. It’s those two teams that lead the betting this time around, with Manchester City clear favourites at odds of around 2.30 (13/10). Arsenal are next up at around 3.00 (2/1), and will fancy their chances after nearly reeling in City last time around. Arteta may have to strengthen, particularly up front, but with some of City’s stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker starting to reach the final period of their careers, this could be as a good a time as any for the Gunners to secure a first title in more than 20 years. Liverpool are a long way back as third favourites, available at around 9.00 (8/1), while next come Chelsea at 21.00 (20/1), Tottenham and Newcastle, both at 34.00 (33/1) and Manchester United at 36.00 (35/1). It’s clear to see who the sports betting sites fancy.
To be relegated
As is usual, three teams will exit the Premier League at the end of the season to go down to the Championship. At the end of the 2023/24 season it was the three newest teams in the division who returned to the league from which they had only just came as we said goodbye to Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United. This season the big boys will be joined by Leicester City and Southampton, both returning after just a single season in the Championship after being related at the end of the 2022/23 season. They will be joined by surprise package Ipswich Town, who return to the Premier League after a gap of more than 20 years. Usurpingly it’s those three teams that the sports betting sites fancy to return to the Championship at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Despite winning the Championship last time out, Leicester are the betting sites’ favourites to go down due to the fact the side has already lost their manager to Premier League rivals Chelsea. Enzo Marasca chose to jump ship has one season into his tenure in the hot seat at the King Power Stadium. Ipswich and Southampton are also tipped to join the Foxes back in the Championship, meaning the experts think that we will see the three promoted teams go straight back down for the second consecutive season. Everton and Nottingham Forest follow in the lines, but are a long way back.
In short, Manchester City to claim the title for a fifth year in succession, and the three promoted teams to bounce straight back down. That’s if you follow the lines, anyway.
