The passes that took our breath away in 2021
In the 2021-22 season, Tom Brady led the league in touchdown passes for the 5th time in his career. He scored 43 times.
However, as far as records go, there were a very low number of touchdown passes this season. The NFL record for most touchdown passes in a season is 55 (held by Payton Manning, of course), and last year Aaron Rodgers led the league with 48 passes.
That being said, there were still some top-quality moments created by these passes that fans will talk about for years to come. Let’s take a look at the 10 best touchdown passes from the 2021 regular season.
#10 – Joe Burrow, Week 8
This wasn’t a winning week for the Bengals but it sure was a winning week for Joe Burrow.
All three of his touchdown passes from Week 8 are worth taking note of. Why? Because they show the fighting spirit of the quarterback and team that are edging them closer to a possible first Super Bowl win for the franchise.
We would be very happy to see them take home some silverware this year.
#9 – Jared Goff, Week 13
Was this the longest touchdown pass of the season – it definitely was not, it was only 11 yards. But did it bring a smile to our faces? Absolutely it did.
Up until this point in the season, the Lions had not chalked up a single win. No one wants to see a team go 0-16…
The looks on the faces of the players and the fans were reason enough for that pass to make it onto this list.
#8 – Joe Burrow, Week 16
Burrow and the Bengals really have had a fantastic season (and the playoffs are going pretty well for them too), so it’s only right that Burrow gets a second mention on this list.
This touchdown pass was a 68-yard strike straight into the box and was caught easily by his man on the other end. It doesn’t get simpler or better than that.
#7 – Patrick Mahomes, Week 10
Odds are, thanks to Mahomes they will be playing in this year’s final as well.
Mahomes is determined to become one of the best of all time and we honestly think he can do it. The Chiefs have won their division every year since he joined the team and they have played in the last two Super Bowl matches, winning one of them.
One particularly good week for Mahomes was Week 10, where he scored 5 touchdown passes. The first one was perhaps his best – passing to Tereek Hill who scored unopposed.
#6 – Matthew Stafford, Week 1
Nothing warms our hearts more than watching a player getting a second chance – and boy did Stafford grab that second chance with both hands.
Stafford had been with the Lions since 2009, and you would be forgiven for thinking that he didn’t have much to offer the league. But this year, he has proved everyone wrong.
We want to highlight his first passing touchdown of the season. It made everybody sit up and say, wow this guy is really something.

#5 – Matt Ryan, Week 5
This was a good year for Matt Ryan.
Not only did he make it into the top ten all-time touchdown passers, but he also overtook Eli Manning and claimed the 9th spot on the list with his 350th touchdown. He went on to score 17 more after that.
If you want to see a masterclass in passing then watch the Falcon’s Week 5 London match. Ryan and Pitts were unstoppable together.
#4 – Tom Brady, Week 7
Brady gave us 43 touchdown passes to choose from this year – that was more than anyone else. He also led in passing yards and passing attempts. As well as setting a new NFL record for completed passes.
One of these passes was particularly special – Brady became the first player ever to reach 600 passing touchdowns. Only Drew Brees ever came close to that and he has scored nearly 200 more than Aaron Rodgers.
Brady ended the season on 624 career passing touchdowns.
#3 – Aaron Rodgers, Christmas Day
We have to include this touchdown pass on the list because it was a milestone moment in the career of one of the best there is.
On Christmas day this season, Rodgers threw his 443rd touchdown pass for the Green Bay Packers. This pass broke Brett Favre’s record.
After spending the first two years of his career as Favre’s understudy, this achievement must have tasted extra sweet.
#2 – Jameis Winston, Week 1
We are putting all 5 of Winston’s Week 1 touchdown passes on this list. Why? Because Winston getting injured and missing out on the rest of the season was one of the worst things to happen to the NFL this year.
All 5 passes were great and his whole performance in this game was so impressive that we don’t want to lose sight of this.
We have a sneaking suspicion that this man could have led the league in touchdown passes if things had gone differently.
Get well soon Winston.
#1 – Justin Herbert, Week 14
One throw. 63 yards. 25 seconds left on the clock. Game-changing.
If you are a Giants fan then you will have already drawn up plans to have this pass tattooed on your body or painted on your bedroom wall.
It is plays like this that make you realize that Herbert should have been the first quarterback picked in the 2020 Draft – but he was the third. He has been one of the most exciting QBs this season and we can’t wait to see what he does next year.
Our favorite touchdown pass of the season was thrown 63 yards by the young gunslinger Justin Herbert. Will we see anything better in the playoffs this year?
