Here is the number one secret strategy to winning your March Madness bracket pool. Get lucky!
Last year I highlighted the other distant 2nd place and on strategies. They are:
- Don’t root for the home team
- Don’t look at the seedings, look at the Vegas Odds
- Listen to real experts
Following these strategies will probably improve your odds of winning your bracket by .0145%. I guess that’s better than 0%. 🙂 The year I won my first bracket, 2016, the bullet item that put me over the top was the 3rd bullet. I listened to 104.3 the Fan in Denver and basketball guru Mike Evans (not!) suggested Villanova was the team to watch out for. As the saying goes, a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. In this case, two blind squirrels found a nut!
So for 2018 I’m adding two more strategies to the mix:
- Pick the Champion
- Pick at least 20% underdogs
The first bullet is obviously easier said than done. The 2nd bullet is especially important if your bracket pool awards points for underdogs. On our site, you can configure either bonus points for the teams seed value, and/or bonus points for the seed spread between the underdog and the favorite. Our public league offers the later bonus points. I was slaughtered last year despite picking the correct champion, because I picked way too high a number of favorites. The champion, Lisa Fitzgerald, picked a decent number of underdogs while also picking the Tar Heels.
So now that you have read this far, put all this knowledge to good use, do your homework, then fill out your bracket and hope you get lucky!
